| SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 6 Exam 310-065
by Katherine Sierra
Amazon Price: $31.49 Used Price: $25.19 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 Review (rating: 3): Purchased this book in order to prepare for the SCJP exam. I found that the replies on the self test were not enough and found myself keep trying to workout the solution from the main material and some times could not.
Bit more description on the answers would have earned it a 5-start but without only a 3-start and unfortunately the need to purchase another book with better explanations on the self-test questions

| CompTIA A+ 220-701 and 220-702 Exam Cram
by David L. Prowse
Amazon Price: $29.69 Used Price: $26.22 Average Customer Rating: 5.0 Review (rating: 5): If you've got some level of experience (personal or professional) with installing, configuring, and troubleshooting PC hardware and Windows (XP/Vista), this is the perfect book to get you to prep for and more importantly, pass the A+ Exam the first try. If you don't have any of that experience, this book is still helpful, but I'd recommend practicing (ie. building a PC, installing/configuring a Windows OS, etc.) alongside reading through the book to see first hand the material being covered.
I travel quite a bit for work so I gave myself about 30 days to prep for the A+ Exam using this book. While reading, I made some notes in places I felt I needed to focus more time on. During that final weekend, I spent the time doing both practices tests in the back of the book and the tests on the included CD. By the way, the practice tests on the CD are presented just like the real exams. I retook those four practice tests until I scored 90% or better and then took the actual exams that following Monday. I passed both scoring 80%+ on each exam. Now on to Network+.
Overall, the author offers a great game plan to prep for the objectives covered on the exam and then prep you for possible exam questions. In my own experience, I'd say 99% of the practice test answers were correct. Thinking back, I probably found 1 (possibly 2 at the most) on the CD exam that gave incorrect answers to its respective question(s). But of course you'd know the CD was giving you the wrong answer if you had the knowledge, right?
Highly recommended!

| A+ Guide to Managing & Maintaining Your PC
by Jean Andrews
Amazon Price: $73.42 Used Price: $66.99 Average Customer Rating: 4.0 Review (rating: 3): The book is fine .. except .. the best it can do is to briefly cover 1000s of subjects that could easily take a chapter each. And then you want to take an A+ exam that assumes depth in coverage. Impossible. Either the author does not know this, or is not willing to accept responsibility for making the reader believe they are becoming a trained PC tech merely by reading this book. I have 47 years experience doing everything in this book, and I know that you can only learn this material by doing it every day. And one more thing
... seriously ... never go into a computer with one of those stupid electrostatic straps on your arm. It is worthless, and you will drag parts off onto the floor and break them needlessly. Her emphasis on that strap causes me to be very suspicious about her qualifications as a real PC technician. And if the house electricians have wired the power boxes backwards, your "arm" will be sitting there at 120vac just waiting for you to touch another piece of equipment that is wired properly on another nearby circuit. Maybe a cheap lawyer could straighten this out with the A+ people. 120vac hand-to-hand goes straight through your "dead" heart !

Scott Mueller knows his stuff, and after you read this, you will too.

| Digital Restoration from Start to Finish, Second Edition: How to repair old a...
by Ctein
Amazon Price: $21.64 Used Price: $19.99 Average Customer Rating: 5.0 Review (rating: 4): The 2nd edition of "Digital Restoration" is everything it claims to be without being too technical or too advanced for beginners, and the author's tone is relatable and authoritative at the same time. Chapters include hardware (memory, storage, backup, scanners, printers) software (photoshop, photoshop elements, other plug-ins etc) how to actually get photos into the computer, and then the various restoration techniques (restoring tone, restoring color, making masks, damage control, enhancements, etc). There are lots of color photographs of before/after examples as well as color photos of program menus that help guide you through the actual computer navigation of restoration. Only reason this doesn't get 5 stars is because, as all technological guides, its information is pretty temporal and will be in need of a 3rd updated edition relatively soon.

| CompTIA Security+ All-in-One Exam Guide, Second Edition (Exam SY0-201)
by Gregory White
Amazon Price: $37.79 Used Price: $31.94 Average Customer Rating: 4.0 Review (rating: 4): I used this book as part of my exam prep. Good intro to the topics, with somewhat more detail than is required in many areas. Better to have too much info than too little in this case, however.
Starting with this volume and moving on to the Sybex Security+ Study Guide, then Security+ 2008 In Depth, passed with 855/900.
As noted in other reviews, you should have some networking background before attempting this material, as it does not review those topics sufficiently for a beginner.

by Michael Jang
Amazon Price: $37.79 Used Price: $31.35 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 Review (rating: 2): It is like reading a table of contents...does not really read like a text book.
Red Hat has a very difficult test, and this book will not prepare you for the exam.

by Morris Rosenthal

| Mike Meyers' CompTIA A+ Certification Passport, Fourth Edition (Exams 220-701...
by Michael Meyers
Amazon Price: $19.79 Used Price: $17.98 Average Customer Rating: 5.0 Review (rating: 5): I only have 6 months of real experience. I bought the big Sybex Comptia A+ Study Guide and studied it hard for ~3-4 weeks. I went in to the 220-701 feeling totally prepared and confident. After the first 5 questions I felt helpless, stupid and defeated but somehow I barely passed. I knew right then and there that the Sybex book wasn't working for me so I ordered this book. I got it on a Tuesday afternoon and read the whole thing by Friday to take the test. I passed with total confidence.
The book is a short and to the point. Very concentrated. The practice test it comes with is way better than the one that comes with Sybex. I highly recommend this book!

ClickBank Refund Rates ? Affiliates Beware
by Antone Roundy
7 Jul 2010 at 11:05am
I just posted the results of an analysis of refund rates for 6,764 ClickBank products over on Instant Affiliate Accelerator blog. The results? The vast majority have very low refund rates.

Marketing in a Recession
by Antone Roundy
7 Jun 2010 at 1:29pm
I’ve been thinking on and off for, oh, about the past two and a half years about how to sell differently during a recession. Here are a few thoughts:
Sell to people whose spending isn’t affected by the recession.
Not everybody hurts during a recession. A lot of people make less money, but some people make the [...]

Internet Marketing KNOWLEDGE vs. SKILL
by Antone Roundy
2 Mar 2010 at 8:56am
All the information in the world won’t do you a lick of good if you don’t develop the skill needed to apply it successfully.
Many people who spend a small fortune on internet marketing training products fail. Then they turn around and claim that the methods the gurus are teaching don’t work.
The gurus and their fan [...]
